Your Guide to Buying a Home

Your local guide to finding the perfect home. Janet Gillis and the Town & Country team have helped 100's of buyers land on the South Shore.

Buying a home is one of the most significant decisions you'll ever make — and it deserves expert guidance from someone who truly knows the market. At Town & Country Realty Massachusetts, our agents are dedicated to protecting your interests at every step.

Step 1: Get Pre-Approved Before you fall in love with a home, know your budget. A pre-approval letter tells sellers you're serious and gives us a competitive edge when making offers.

Step 2: Define Your Goals What matters most? School districts, commute times, lot size? The South Shore offers an incredible range — from historic Marshfield neighborhoods to waterfront properties in Scituate and Duxbury.

Step 3: Search Smart We set up customized MLS alerts so you see new listings the moment they hit the market — often before they appear on Zillow or Realtor.com.

Step 4: Make a Smart Offer Once we find your home, we'll run a detailed comparative market analysis to help you offer the right price and negotiate firmly on your behalf.

Step 5: Navigate Inspections & Closing From home inspection to final walkthrough, we're with you every step with a trusted network of inspectors, attorneys, and lenders serving the South Shore.

Why Choose an ABR® Buyer's Agent? The Accredited Buyer's Representative (ABR®) designation means your agent has completed specialized training in buyer representation — trained exclusively to look out for your interests, not the seller's.

I cannot say enough about Janet Gillis and the care she gave me during one of the biggest and most emotional transitions of my life.

I lived in my home at 41 Constantine Drive in Marshfield for 32 years. It was the home I shared with my husband, Bill, and after he passed away 17 years ago, I continued living there on my own. That home held decades of memories, so the thought of leaving it was very difficult for me. I knew that at 87 years old, it was time for me to start thinking about a home that would be safer for me now and could also meet my needs in the future.

Janet understood from the beginning that this wasn't simply about selling my house and finding another place to live. It was about helping me make a very emotional life change while allowing me to remain as independent as possible.

She took me to see many different communities and properties and was incredibly patient. She never rushed me or pressured me. She listened to what was important to me and helped me consider not only what I needed today, but what I might need someday, including the possibility of assisted living or additional care. She wanted me to find a place where I could truly feel comfortable, safe and at home.

Once I made my decision, Janet handled virtually everything. What had seemed like a monumental and overwhelming task to me became manageable because she was there every step of the way. She coordinated the people and vendors needed to prepare and sell my home, helped me pack and clean, and took care of countless details that I never would have expected a Realtor to do. She even watered my newly planted grass during the summer heat after septic work had been completed because she didn't want me worrying about it.

One thing that meant a great deal to me was what happened to the belongings I couldn't take with me. Janet understood that these things had value and memories attached to them, and I didn't want them simply thrown away. She helped arrange donations to organizations and causes that were meaningful to me, including Habitat for Humanity, our local senior community, the Marshfield Animal Shelter and organizations helping women in need. Knowing that things from my home could help other people in the community I have loved for so many years made letting them go much easier.

Janet successfully sold my home and helped me find the perfect new place to call home. I am settling into my new community beautifully and am very happy with the decision I made.

But what says the most about Janet is that her involvement didn't end at the closing table. She still checks on me and visits me regularly. Somewhere along the way, Janet stopped being simply my Realtor and became my friend.

If you are looking for someone to simply list and sell your house, there are many Realtors who can do that. But if you are looking for someone who will genuinely care about you, listen to you, protect your interests, and personally help you through every step of a major life transition, I wholeheartedly recommend Janet Gillis of Town & Country Realty.

I will always be grateful for everything she did for me.

As my friends POA, I needed to help him sell his Marshfield home after his wife’s sudden passing. We interviewed 5 agents and chose Janet Gillis of Town and Country realty. She helped us with every aspect of the process. If we needed something done she found good people to do it. She went over all of the offers, and showed us why one buyer’s offer was more solid than another. I have already told her that when I am ready to sell my home, she has the sale.
